Day 5 -Celebration of YES

In our ordinary life we always celebrate 5 October. Why you may ask? It's the day so many years ago in 1984 that MiB ask me to marry him. Yep, it's the day I said YES! I have blogged about this many times over and over again. But it's a fun day to remember and I like to think back on all those years ago at our young love. Not much has changed, he still makes me swoon :) I love him...

I have done various things to commemorate this day and so has he. Since we have so much already going on today we will not be doing a special dinner at home but we will be attending Oktoberfest here at the base. I have already prepared that little somethin' I will drop off in his car and I made a couple love notes to go with it for him to find throughout the day. Just to let him know I am thinking of him and would still say YES! I am uberly blessed to be able to be Mrs. Blue!

That's MY GUY up there :)

That's the smile that still makes me smile :)

I love you MiB thanks for asking ME to marry you :) I certainly WOULD say YES all over again! I AM looking forward to the BIG R with you even if we eat PB&Js being WITH you is the key!

If you aren't sure what's going on with the DAY +# thing check out this post!

YES!

I am thrilled that I said yes to my MIB 26 years ago today when he ask me to marry him…I know he thinks I have been the one to give up so much and endure many things in this USAF marriage but I know he has been a solid, stand up guy and done the same for me just in different arenas. After all, I did go back to finish school once we were married, then the last couple semesters we had LilBlue. He always supported me in that and did whatever he could to facilitate picking up or dropping off LilBlue in those days if he was in town. I think he has been a great son-in-law, uncle, brother in law to those on my side of the family, taking “hits” for the team, making time to do the fun and not so fun, making sure we were inclusive in family events, going our separate ways when necessary to get all the visits in, taking LilBlue for our “chick trips” and being a driver or picker upper when asked. He rarely says no when it comes to the family. We have always lived away and he always tries to make sure we take some of our leave seeing family.

I know our marriage is solid and take comfort in that when I think of his being gone, I don’t think I would hold up so well if I had concerns about our marriage. It is good to be able to trust, to feel loved from afar, and to know that I have a man who loves me.

As I have said every year since he ask, YES, I would do it all over again beyond a shadow of a doubt and YES, I am still lovin’ being Mrs. Blue and look forward to many, many, many more years to come together doing all the things we love to do but mainly just be together.

24

Not the FOX TV show, which I have never even seen, and don't even want to. Yep it's the 24 for us today as in it was 24 years ago on this date (1986, for those who are not quick w/the math skills) that I married the MiB. It's been sweet bliss since...well, for the most part...cause there was that one time, then there was also that day back when, and oh yeah, that one year when we almost...oh, okay, well you get the picture we are still together some days are more blissful then others but we hang in there. We took those vows seriously all those 24 years ago and here we are...it's 24 years later.

Believe it or not I am still in love with him, I still love him and he loves me. How 'bout that? He does get under my skin every now and then and I get cranky sometimes as well, but we make it work, every day, day in, day out. It's not a bed of roses, it's not a uphill hike, at least not everyday anyway, but there are days, it's real life in our life and no matter what you think it's not lovely every single day, but every day there is something to love. It works and most days it is no worries, that is our life, I live it, I love it.

I love you MiB, happy 24th!

A walk down engagement lane...

It was 25 years ago today that I said "YES" when MiB asked me to marry him...I knew he was the one for me and I wanted to keep him so when he asked I was definitely saying yes!!! We picked out the ring together at the local jewelry store and then he went to ask my dad if he could marry me before he would let me have it. That was a memorable evening for us, my dad didn't just give a "sure" or even "yes" it was a nearly 2 hour speech which MiB still vividly recalls to this day :) He often recalls bits and pieces to LilBlue and other young ones we encounter. I would say there are no secrets in our marriage, no magic potions, just a lot of honesty that has gotten us through the years. Our life is not a fairytale no matter what Ms Vada says/thinks but it is often magical because we still work very hard to make it that way. We have, fortunately, been blessed with good Godly examples of marriages. I was the product of the big "D" and wanted no part of that, who would, and in reality I don't think anyone plans for that; however, it is something that happens. I do not think anyone is immune from that possibility and if you do feel that way, IMO you are already at a disadvantage, all marriages are vulnurable, period.

So what has sustained us? Like I said there is no magic potion that I am aware of...but there is a lot of patience, lots of unconditional love, laughter and a love of God, not in that order... We try to honor each other every day, we try to keep it fresh and new, we try to not fall into ruts, (I had my first surfing lesson yesterday, I wouldn't try that for just anyone!), we keep God first and balance all the other demands in our life. We are pulled in many directions with MiB's job, we make the choice to do those things we can do together before we choose those things we do separately, some people think we are joined at the hip, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing :) and we really aren't, we each have some different interests that we keep up with but we do try to make sure we aren't consumed by them. We try to heed that advice given to us from those who have succeeded, such as

  • NEVER, ever, ever go to bed mad
  • Treat each other as you are still dating
  • Do not speak poorly of your mate to anyone

Don't kid yourself, we have had our own set of ups and downs...we have not always kept to the solid advice give but we have tried. We have also done marriage retreats, couples weekends and rented ears...all to make sure we stayed on solid ground. We have worked through some deep issues, we have had "moments", we are human, life is not always a cake walk and far from perfect but we try to continue to grow together in our marriage and we continually give God the glory for our life. It's worked for us and we have thankfully avoided a marriage on the rocks. I pray daily for MiB and I know he does the same for me, we pray together, we worship together, we do life together, we do not live separate lives and live under the same roof, we do it together, ALL of it, the good, the better and the best~

I am so glad I said, YES" all those years ago!

143 MiB :)
