His View / Her View
It's a crisp morning today in LA and I knew I would not be rolling out of bed early to get my exercise in. So when I got a call from MiB telling me good morning and that he was looking at a wonderful view of the harbor and that he had sent me a picture of his view I thought that's very nice.
And seriously, I was thrilled to hear his voice. He's only been gone since Sunday and we have of course texted and emailed many times but it is always good to hear his voice and hear those three little words that still make my insides swirl. Anyway, after hanging up I thought I have a pretty good view too :)
I'm having as much of a home day-morning as I can, which means not much cause my attend this and to do list are calling! But I did finish my book and the view was awesome along with the coffee!

Weekend WrapUp
The weekend was once again waaaay too short! Friday evening was spent with the neighbors enjoying THE machine, we had the proper supplies so it was a good mixture.
Then Saturday we took in the Dragon Boat races where I did not take one single picture...hmmm. And one of our very own 2d wing teams took 3rd OVERALL. Way to go AMXS :) In between boat racing MiB took me to lunch at Jersey Mike's, which I do enjoy, this time we tried a hot sub. It did not disappoint, the Philly cheese steak is way good but can only be a treat as it is very high in the caloric intake and we know I am trying to watch that :/ Then we had another evening of desserts where we took a lovely cheesecake with sweet strawberries on top. Again, sorry no picture :( I was just not in picture taking mode that day I guess...
Today was a nice relaxing start, then it was airport shuttle time.
For some reason I did have an odd feeling about today's journey. Not a BAD feeling I just thought hmmm, I hope it goes smooth but I had that gut feeling it wouldn't, turns out my gut was right. There was a delay with the plane coming into Dallas and once it was finally there they still had plane part issues. After over three hours in delays they were finally off the ground. What's even worse is once he was in Dallas turns out he could of "caught a ride" with the higher up guy on the installation who was going to the same location. Gotta love communication and coordination or lack thereof. Such is life, he will be much later, hungry and tired but he will be. He will make the most of it and will have a great week as there will be reunions and celebrations for one of our own being named a TOP 10 :) It's all good. He has just safely landed in our nation's capital and hopefully he will make it to the hotel without any issues and sleep well! Though I know he is hungry so there may be a Mickey D's or some other food stop first!
Have a great week, I plan to. And while I had hoped it would be a little slower and quieter while MiB is gone looking at my calendar that is not the case. Oh, well, welcome to the third week of September. Can you believe that? There are only three FULL months left of this year...oh my, I feel time is passing too quickly.

Random Updates
If you remember this post regarding my phone you need to know that NOTHING happened when the whatever it was expired. That kind of makes me mad but then again I really am glad nothing happened. But it had me somewhat stressed for a few days as every morning that annoying message appeared randomly for several weeks. Pffft Apple! You may me afraid for nothing, nothing at all!
And I DO have a nail in my right front tire...holy cow what's up with us and tires... If you recall we recently replaced a tire as in less then a week ago. It is here on the blog if you missed it. I am not yet sure if we will be replacing another tire, maybe it can be repaired or plugged or patched or whatever it is you do to brand new tires that get holes. Geeeeeezz!
I am on a little bit of a vacation is over downer; it was great to be away, it was fine to come back but I liked being away better. Tonight I will get all gussied up for a formal event and go play nicely with people who probably aren't enjoying themselves. As of late I feel like others do not enjoy their role as a mil spouse and find it labor intensive. I have rarely if ever felt like that. I enjoy being with MiB no matter where that may be. I would much rather enjoy an evening, ANY evening, with my MiB then be without him especially if that means I stay at home without him. Now that we are empty nesters I am able to go and do more with him. And even when LiLBlu was at home, I tried to go and do what I could around our family life and we still treated military events like date nights. I don't know it just works for us, I get it if it doesn't work for others but maybe you should get into a different line of work.
I have finished the laundry, was hoping to get a little more cleaning done, but worked on some other projects and cleaning just didn't happen. Will definitely need to make time to hit the high spots soon, the dust is taking over!
I was able to make a commissary run today and pick up necessities. I was once again disappointed in the produce section. I don't what it is about this location but the fresh fruit and veggie section lacks IMO. I will hit the farmer's market in the morning. we definitely need tomatoes so we can have caprese, I need to use the cheese before it is out of date. And I also got bacon for BLTs which sound great on hot days.
Hope I hit the high points on updates, just felt like some things were hanging and wanted you in the loop! LOL Now I'm going to try and catch up on some reading! Have a great evening.

Beach, Pizza, Movies and Bikes
MiB and I hit the beach early again this a.m.
While the clouds made the sun's appearance later then usual it was still gorgeous when it did make it's appearance.
MiB finally got a few waves in.
Pulling out the board for the first time...he was sooooo ready to hit the waves!
He was thrilled I know and I enjoyed finishing the book I was reading. It was all good until he was coming in and a local let him know he was surfing in an off limits spot...oops! Upon further investigation sure enough he was breaking rule #7.
Rule #7 was on the white sign on the lifeguard stand...pretty small writing; I guess we just missed it!
After we returned to the hotel we went to straight to the pool and the others came and joined us.
Boys in the pool...
LilBlue catching some rays and Uncle G sitting in the pool in the chair!
Then it was off to find lunch, pizza was the unanimous decision, so off we went to Papa's Pizza. I say it was average but filling. We all did the buffet with the exception of the bud who reported he wasn't so hungry so he would just have a slice of pizza. LOL
Hmmmm, who was hungry and who wasn't?????
Then we went and took the dolphin tour aka ferry ride and saw even more dolphins this time around and the boat was way less crowded so it was pretty darn neat!
After a quick stop at Sonic we headed inside for a cool adventure at the movies since it was so stinking hot today. There was an arcade area inside the theater and we dropped a few quarters since we were a bit early for our flick!
Movie was ahhhh, there is not much I can say and I will not even be reporting which movie we saw. Mixed reviews from our crew though there were a few laughs not a favorite for sure!
Back into the pool we went and also did some hot tub time which we all seem to enjoy!
Then it was on to the bikes. Yes, we decided to rent the multiple passenger bike and take a little 2 mile ride down the seawall. We had a destination in mind for dessert so off we went. When we arrived we had to find a good place to secure our rented bike...
Then we headed into The Spot for our long awaited for dessert!
Dessert :)
Personally, I had carrot cake :/
Others had ice cream...
It was a hoot. Ringing the little bell for EVERYTHING was hilarious and we also raced with another bike which was pretty funny too! WE also took a few detours!
We returned the cart, walked the pier and returned to the room to bed down for the night. It's been another great day of sun, surf and sand! Can't say I am happy about having to head home tomorrow but we knew this day was coming. I know I will be on the beach first thing in the morning getting those last few minutes of beach time in!

Houston they have landed!!!!
Bud and LilBlue have arrived in Houston!
We made it our hotel for tonight and met up with the Curtis Clan for dinner.
We really, really like LaBrisa in Texas City. They have the VERY best margarita's ever, seriously, they do! And their bacon wrapped shrimp is to the most yummy, too!
Welcome to Houston :)

CC arrival, they number 10 but were minus one!
We left with very full bellies!
LilBlue was the only one who had a take home box, hope she shares with me tomorrow! :) YUMMERS, seriously some really good food and great conversations, always nice to see friends from way back when!

It's been a week, missed you!
It's been a whole week since I've posted. I feel like it's been much longer. Life marched on, we came, we went, we got through another week. I am meeting this week with a not so full schedule and MiB traveling. It's been awhile since he's been away. In fact its been a long while come to think of it. Oh well, he won't be gone long and I will be laying low and staying close to the home front. I have many little chores I would love to get done but seem to never find the chunks of time to do them. This week while he is away I plan to find some of those chunks of time. I may spend a day in my PJs as well, been too long since I've done that and I'm ready for a PJ day along with a good book!
Hot is what it's been here, like really, really hot. We were in Dallas over the weekend and it was sweltering. I was glad for good AC. I was also thrilled to get to shop at ALDI. Got stocked up on some of our favs along with a few panty staples. Always enjoy going and really loved the $1.49 filet Mignon that we snagged and had for dinner last night. Ohmygoodness they were good, not to mention the sweet corn on the cob, baked taters which we used plain Greek yogurt on and garlic bread. We had caprese for a starter and this time I soaked the tomatoes in the balsamic, next time I will also soak the cheese, it was sooooo good! We were way to full afterwards! UGH but it was some really good eating. Best part is we have two more filets for next weekend when MiB returns!
This evening is the Uniform Depot which my neighbor spearheaded and I have pledged to be her helper during the event. It's such a great deal for our military families. All the schools here require uniforms. That's not a bad thing but it can be costly. The Uniform Depot is going to help A LOT of families and save them A LOT of money so it's win-win!!!

Going back to the BIG O
Seems too soon to be sending her back. Didn't she JUST get here???? UGH
Since we were having a gathering this evening, I did not make the airport run, the twins did. Of course, we did not snap pictures before she left the house. Thankfully, they did take a few at the airport as they were dropping her off.
With Uncle G
MiB w/LilBlue
Smiling...didn't know about the delay yet!
When she left the house it was all good as far as what the online status of her flight was...ontime! However, shortly after making it through TSA there was a weather delay announced due to storms in the Dallas area, specifically lightening. That went on for quite a while, her 4:25 departure turned into a 6:30 one but she did finally make it to Dallas. Then more delays due to weather. Her original Dallas flight was 6:45 but we knew before she left here that her connecting flight was also delayed so no worries on missing it. The Dallas delay was a concern for me as we did not want her stuck there overnight and we just kept praying something would break loose. Her flight got off the ground out of Dallas just after 10:00 p.m. And finally after 9 hours and some change she finally landed in the the BIG O shortly after midnight! Since the BUD had to be a work she had to arrange an alternate ride home...thanks to BUD's family for that!
What a great week we all had, looking forward to next month when we will eek out another visit at an as of yet undecided location. Thoughts and plans are still forming, but I think water and most likely sand will be involved :) Can't wait. Course don't want to wish the days away until then so we will all work hard and make the most of the days until then, most importantly for LilBlue as she tackles Spanish IV.
Gathering tonight was as always F*U*N. We celebrated birthdays and promotions. I wish we would have documented better but I was on and off the phone with LilBlue throughout the evening keeping up on the travel saga she was living and really fell down on the job. In fact I felt a horrible hostess as I kept stepping away to speak with her or text back and forth. I know our guest understood but I still felt a little schmucky.
For some reason feet and flip flops were discussed and all those present wearing them decided a picture was in order...that was all but one :)
FlipFlop Central!
And ohbytheway the margarona's were a HUGE hit. Let me tell you I was not sure they would be with this crowd but they were. EVERYONE had one and liked it. I have some thoughts on tweaking it for next time but for this time I did it like this. Which is a little bit different then the recipe I was given, I went with light Corona and used Fresca instead of 7-Up. Next time I will make my own limeade using splenda to cut the calories even more.
Margarona's
12 oz light Corona
12 oz Fresca
12 oz can frozen limeade concentrate
12 oz tequila
Splash of triple sec
Mix and serve over crushed ice. Simple and refreshing!

T-24 and counting...
LilBlue will be here in less then 24 hours. How excited am I to get to see her?
E X C I T E D
OUR GIRL!!
While she will only get to stay a couple of days we will take what we can get. She starts back to summer classes on Monday so getting her for these few days is awesome! I am trying to get some house straightening done, little grocery shopping in and just in general wrapping up things so I have not so much going on while she is here. So far, so good! Since it was a last minute trip, thank you AA frequent flier miles, we are still on the hook for some things we had already committed to prior to knowing she would be here. But it's all good, we will just drag her along! Our family motto isn't Adapt and Overcome for nothing!

Thursday Thoughts!
I'm going to a swanky dinner tonight! Dressen' right up and going out. This evening we will be attending a heritage dinner celebrating the 70th anniversary of the MIGHTY 8th!
I have many things to do and have already accomplished a lot so I feel pretty good about today. I'm choosing to be on the computer less and less. It is hard but I like it.
Gotta run, still much to do!

Home again...
Long day...six states and two White Grill cheeseburgers later and we are home. It is good to be in our own space. While we do enjoy the travel it is nice to look at the rest of May and know that we are supposed to be home. I think we are both looking forward to getting some home time. Perhaps some of those still not hanging on the wall items will be hanging, or not! Looks like we are going to have visitors. I am UBER excited about that, hope it all works out that they can come :)
So it wasn't easy to leave the girl, but she IS doing good and I know she is only going to improve. I am sad that we didn't get to do more, but there is only so much you can do when one is recovering. I am just thankful we could be there and help her through this. I know she is still in good hands, the Bud has taken over. I am thankful for so many unspoken things this evening, God is good!
I'm off to bed, I know I am hoping for a wonderfully restful night in my own bed! NIGHT :)

Easter :)
It was good...

Got a nice picture of two of the ones we love very much...
Started off in church :)
Got a nice picture of two of the ones we love very much...
There were some really cute toes!!!
After an awesome lunch of really good fried chicken, potato salad, chinese slaw, mac n cheese, deviled eggs, green salad and baked beans we started the annual hunt.
The hunting crew and then with the extra two!
LilBlue gathering!
MalMal picking up her eggs!
Nater Tater hunting...
Treyster
SCORE....bucket full of eggs for Little #2
And I do not know what happened that I did not get a picture of Little #1. He was there and hunting with the best of them! After the hunt, egg tokens were exchanged for money and prizes. It's always a riot to watch the redemption. Such decision. By the end they are giving away things to each other, it's priceless!
Since we were driving back to LA, and LilBlue had to go north back to the Big O, and Uncle G needed to get back to OKC we all headed out. Of course we gathered and loaded the last of our things before hitting the road. It is always bittersweet to leave in the middle of things...but I did get to have strawberry shortcake before we departed :)

We snapped a few more photo's then off we went our separate ways!

Seems like we usually forget to get one of the three of us, I'm so glad we didn't today :)
It was very good...

Well then...
Yes, it was sort of kind of one of THOSE days...not really bad in the big scheme of things but it certainly was not good, so to speak!
Of course this morning was the memorial for one of our own. His life was cut way short due to a traffic crash. What a great family, from all indications his parents did a fabulous job rearing him and he was so very highly thought of by those who knew him. A true witness.
Meetings this afternoon, along with a clinic visit for that "fungal infection" that is not...I know! So much for me going on to medical school! It is, well, they don't know what it is. Seriously, they do not, I go back next week, so stay tuned for further developments.
Then this evening it was a catch up night for me as MiB did some icebreaking on the main base. I was able to finish gathering things for our trip this weekend, do some long overdue filing, sort through other pending paperwork, along with organize a few things in the unpacked closet that still has a looooong way to go before it is done. Oh me, I am ready for bed.
It is storming here this evening so really going to bed might be pointless as I don't really sleep all that well when it storms, but I am willing to try. I have another full day tomorrow with several items on my "to-do" list before we leave. I would like to hit a couple stores for their sales...also need to make an order on base, along with secure 5 photo frames and a new brown shirt. Then I should try to do a return that I have and finish getting LilBlue's spring basket items. And work in the other things on my planner, yep, I have enough to keep me busy that's for sure!
Take care and be safe!

AFSA Conference good, Lodging B A D :(
Since we did NOT have internet in the accommodations we had I will link MiBs post to bring you up to date. And trust me on this the photos do not really capture the state of things but they give you a real good idea as well as this link.
Anyway, the conference itself was good, I learned a lot and it really hammered home just exactly how vitally important this professional organization is to the military member, specifically the Air Force enlisted member. I am proud to be a part of this org! We are thinking hard about attending the Jacksonville PAC! Since we have actually stayed at this hotel we have no worries if we do get to go!
I want to say that the organizers of the conference were totally taken aback with the state of the hotel. On their site visit they were shown the VERY BEST of everything and unfortunately things went down hill from the time they visited until the conference and those two rooms they were shown were not the average. EVERYTHING was done by the host chapter to help remedy as best they could the situation. We made the best of it! ADAPT and OVERCOME our family motto once again came into play and we did and we survived!

Travelin' Thursday Thoughts!
We are on the road again, just a travelin', travelin'!
Yep, we have packed our bags and headed back to Texas. The AFSA Conference schedule looks like it it will be lots of fun and we will get to reconnect with some folks we haven't seen for awhile. Win-Win :)
I think I did a much better packing job this time...it's easier when you know exactly what you will be doing. I find it's so much easier for me when you have guidance, rather then me just trying to figure out what I should take and take what I think I will want/need, it's hard to do that; especially when you have different weather happening or unknown weather.
So the thoughts!

Woah it's already Wednesday!
Preparing for our next trip...thoughts are swirling rapidly through my brain of all I need to accomplish before we leave! However, I also have travel thoughts...
I have my hopes up to get a stop in at one of my favorite stores! A.L.D.I Yes, I love that store! I miss the great prices on some of my favorite things. Black olives being one, weird, I know, but they are really good black olives. I also like a lot of their "cold" items which sadly I will not be able to bring back much from that department. They have the best whipped cream in a can! Seriously, it's good! I also think their cream cheese is just as good as the Liberty Bell kind, sour cream is totally yum, too! Their guac rocks!
In addition I love their produce, they have exceptionally good prices here. And it's great produce for sure! They have good bread products, great whole grain type breads! And there are some cereals of theirs I like.
To be fair they have things I do not enjoy...it's trial and error. BUT if you don't like something you return it for a FULL refund. Also if you get say a bad cantaloupe, you can tell them next time you are there and they will give you another. I have never done this without returning the actual unacceptable produce item, but I have been told you don't have to bring the produce back. I just love a store that stands behind it's products.
IF you go be sure to have a quarter and cash. Yes, I did say a quarter and I do mean that round coin that takes four to make a dollar. You have to pay for your shopping cart. That way more then likely you will return in to the cart corral to get your quarter back instead of leave the cart in the parking lot. I personally LOVE this concept and wish our commissary would adopt this process. It's a little pet peeve I have when people take a shopping cart to their vehicle and then just abandon it in the parking lot!
Okay, so I gotta get, have to make a post office, dry cleaning, bx run and get back to meet a friend who is picking up our moving boxes for her move. Love recycling and helping out a friend too! Just wish we had a little more time so we could have dinner. Next time!
Ciao!

Monday...
I have done laundry, all 7 loads and I could technically do one more! I have cleaned out my email box. I have cleaned the bathroom. I have updated my calendar. I have had breakfast and lunch.
What I am not telling you is that I should have been working on LilBlue's taxes. It's not enough that I have done ours already; both Federal and State. I have already done her Federal, she got a little refund :) Sent it straight to her savings account. But now I should be tackling the State side of the house for her. Here's the mind bogglingness of it that continues to make me want to hide. I have to figure out two states, yes, that's right TWO states!
Yes, I know, fun!
You see she is a student. She is a military dependent. We are "residents" of another. She has to file in both the state she is a student in, since she has a job there and our resident state. It's not complicated at all, no not at all...hahahahbawwaaah! That's a big fat lie :/
IF only I would have realized the income cutoff for her NOT to have to file at all, I sooooo would have paid her off. I would have paid her to not make over that amount. I really would have even given her a bonus as well! Especially since she was only over by a a couple hundred dollars. Oh, how I wish I knew what I didn't know sooner. Seems that is the way on things like this. Wonder if I can find out what that amount will be for 2012??? This is something I need to stay on top of. I will so pay her to stay under, yes, I will, unless of course that is illegal, then I sooooo would never do that. You know I am a rule follower, like to a fault.
Of course, after figuring out this quagmire I will probably be able to breeze through it next time, so it won't even matter. As it goes I have always filed our taxes and never minded, however, I am starting to have second thoughts on this task now...
So before I get on to this tax workout I am going to finish unpacking. Do a little bit more cleaning, cause that will allow me to delay starting the taxes. Then I am going to start packing. Yes, you read that right, packing again. Cause if I do that I can again delay the whole looming tax thing! I know, right? And if you should be in wonderment on the packing again well there's another adventure on Thursday as we head back to Texas again for a conference!
But before I dive into the taxes I might need to reorganize my underwear drawer or possibly alphabetize our canned goods, or seriously do a real workout. I need to do that, especially after being on vacation last week. It's not pretty! However, I am out here in the sticks and driving to the gym is not going to happen, so maybe I could just go get a walk in on this very gorgeous spring day! You know do really important stuff before I can possibly start on the taxes. I should also really try to read and catch up on FaceBook. After all, I have at least two more weeks before they are due...

The girl is gone...
Well, we knew the week would not last forever, but we hated to see it come to a close, which it did as we dropped LilBlue at the airport this afternoon.
We took one last walk on the beach, ate TEXAS waffles, loaded up the car, checked out of the hotel and headed north. Made a quick stop for a last minute shopping excursion, gotta love scoring the 30 OFF :) and then on up the road to the plane. Without knowing how traffic would be in Houston, and it was B.A.D. we allowed plenty of time to get there. Then without knowing how quickly the TSA line would move, we had to allow time there...soooo we hated to but we had to give her up many moment sooner then plane departure. But such is the life of an air traveler. You have to be prepared and ready no matter. So we were! Anyway, we weren't happy to lose that precious time with her, but know that's the way it works... So she cleared TSA and we phone chatted for a bit more, then she went to find her a spot to wait for the boarding time. It was all good.
After running the airport shuttle MiB and I headed on back to G-Town, stopping to check into our new hotel on the way. Did I mention that Houston traffic is B.A.D.? Well, let me be sure you get it...Houston traffic on a Saturday was BAD :/ Accidents, rubber neckers, road construction, ambulances and LOTS of brake lights, we saw it all! I am not thinking Houston will make the retirement list!
So we did finally make it back south and enjoyed a lovely afternoon on the beach after a quick stop for a filet-o-fish enroute. The beach was crowded, more so then we had seen it all week. But thankfully we snagged a great parking spot near 37th Street, which is a "surfing spot" so it was all good. MiB got water, I got sun, it was nearly perfect. We ended up staying well into the afternoon before making the trek back northward to our new hotel. We decided to bypass the hotel and go on for Mexican food at the original LaBrisa while we were out. We were NOT disappointed. It was very good and our waitress was really good, it was win, win. Love their happy hour frozen 'ritas!
Back to the hotel...it was full of a boy's little leaguers team, the River Rats, that had taken over the pool and hot tub so we opted for an evening in. After nice hot showers, we stretched out in the king size bed for a bit of tube watching and internetting.
Tomorrow we make our way back to LA. Personally, I could stay several more days at the beach...

Sand, Sun and Fun and oh, horses!
Today was all about the beach and water...
We started off this morning at Isla Blanca Park. It was a good stop and they give a military discount on entry so even better in our book! We hunted shells, found a sand dollar and saw several jelly fish!
It's our last night in SPI, we are not exactly sure right now of our evening plans but I think it will be relaxing and low key. Showers are being had to wash off the horse! It's been another great day but we move on to G-Town.

The jelly fish were quite large compared to the ones we were used to seeing in FL.
These jellies are usually called moon jellies. Much different then the Portuguese Man o'War we dealt with in FL since these are mild stingers...however, I prefer no sting at all so yeah I stayed away from them! LilBlue and MiB of course were right there on them investigating!
After roaming the beach at Isla we had lunch at a local Mexican place and sadly I cannot recommend it...definitely a touristy place that is friendly enough just not what we felt was quality food, portions were also skimpy. Of course another major criteria was the salsa...it was a warm salsa, which I am okay with but the flavor was not there and lets just say the queso was thinned Velveeta with a bit of something. But hey it did fill our food deficit so it ended okay!
The afternoon we spent lounging poolside in and out of the hot tub and pool soaking in the rays. I think some of us even snoozed a little but I will not mention names...
Then LilBlue and MiB went horseback riding on the beach late this afternoon. This of course was a huge hit and there are lots of stories from this excursion. Rosco and Bourbon had no clue what they were in for when these two saddled them up for the ride, God Bless them!
