I voted, I already told you that but I wanted to remind you just in case you forget! 

And I hope you have or plan to do your civic duty today as well. I personally think it's all of our responsibilities to vote when it's election day. That's all, I will leave it at that, carry on.

Day 29 - Death

It's not a part of life that is enjoyable but it's still a part of ordinary life.

A man who played a very significant role in my formative years and remained a close confidant, spiritual mentor, financial adviser,all around be there for me kind of guy has gone on to be with his heavenly Father. He was my own father's best friend and since I was raised by my dad we spent a lot of time together with his family. He was a rare gem and he will be missed.

Some of my favorite memories are meeting for coffee. J.C. had a sweet tooth and he loved his treats. Donuts were definitely a treat and he always made sure he had one and me too! He knew my favorite kind and I knew his. In addition whenever we were at his house there was ALWAYS, always, always candy, usually boxed Russell Stovers. The chocolate with nuts or caramel were my favorite and he always knew which ones those were and would tell me which one to pick. He also always had divinity candy at Christmas too. The kind with walnuts or pecans were my favorite. His sister made it, it was the best! I also remember many a chicken dinner with him, he loved chicken, especially fried. Yep, we shared many a meal over the years.

J.C. was NOT just about food, oh my no. He was about life. He was a real guy who lived through some struggles, he was genuine and honest. He told you like it was but with so much love and compassion. He was truly one of a kind. His wife often said they broke the mold after J was born. He served in WWII, didn't talk about it much, but MiB did some research and helped locate some of his citations and awards, he had the purple heart. He flew over 30 combat missions, he was a belly gunner, that's no easy job and many did not come home! We made him a shadow box with his military items, it hung in his room in the Good Samaritan home! He was very humble about his military service.

When we were in Italy, he would say if you ever get to Foggia look up my laundry lady and tell her hi! He and A had hope to make it to Italy to visit us but their health was declining at that time and it just didn't work out. He was a character for sure! He was also a vocalist. Yes, he could sing and sing well. He was the song leader in my childhood church for many years and no one could lead the song service quite like he did. The two I remember the most that he really brought it for were Victory in Jesus and Up from the Grave He Arose. Those two songs hold incredible memories for me! I know he is singing them still. In fact he was singing still last time we visited him all from memory! Truly a joy to hear!

There is so much more I could say, in fact I could go on and on and on about this man...he was truly a man like no other and we lost a good one when we lost J.C. I'm saddened beyond measure but also rest in the assurance of knowing we will meet again someday and oh what a day that will be!

Day 28 - Football

My name is Mrs Blue and I am a football fan...

I am originally from Missouri and have always cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs on their good years and not so good years! I also loved the St Louis Cardinals and was sooooo VERY sad when they moved on to Arizona and secretly still like them lots! However, in high school I was also a pretty big Steeler's fan, now, notsomuch. My team of teams is the New England Patriots, I've liked them best for a number of years. I think it's the red, white and blue uniforms that sucked me in earlier in my more adult life stage. However, I like a number of other teams and will cheer for them when they are on like the Minnesota Vikings, there is something about Minnesota that I like, I also like the Houston Texans, a little (it's those darn red, white and blue colors that get me every time).

Sadly, there are teams I do not ever pull for like the Dallas Cowgirls, not sure what it is I just don't care for them nor do I like the Oakland Raiders, nope, I don't like them at all, no way, no how! I am not a Denver Broncos fan either. But since it's a personal choice and fans are pretty loyal I am never ugly to any other team fan, I think that good rivalries are awesome but ugliness to others based on their team choice is just nasty! A little jib jabbing is okay as long as it's in good taste!

I am a college football fan as well, BOOMER SOONER baby! That's the team I really enjoy and almost equally so the Auburn Tiger's, yep, that's right I do NOT Roll Tide. NOT a Cornhusker fan either, seems no matter the day I cannot Go Big Red. Of course, I am a Mizzou fan since MiB spent some time there as well as two of his siblings and it is MY home state! And let's not forget those Air Force Falcon's! You gotta cheer for your service team...go Air Force!

Believe it or not we also enjoy and find ourselves at the occasional high school football game. We were especially proud of the T-Birds in Bellevue, NE and always cheered for the Stanhope Mustangs when we were in AL and then our own alma mater those Nevada Tigers are always close to our heart!

Football is definitely a part of oh my ordinary life! Cheer on your favorite team today, you know you have one!

Day 9 - Voting

In just under a month our nations will elect new leaders starting at the top down. I am not going to go into politics AT ALL, but I will say I did my civic duty and voted with my absentee ballot today. I hope everyone will vote, I honestly do want to believe every vote counts...

And I do not know what happened that I did not get a picture of Little #1. He was there and hunting with the best of them! After the hunt, egg tokens were exchanged for money and prizes. It's always a riot to watch the redemption. Such decision. By the end they are giving away things to each other, it's priceless! 

Since we were driving back to LA, and LilBlue had to go north back to the Big O, and Uncle G needed to get back to OKC we all headed out. Of course we gathered and loaded the last of our things before hitting the road. It is always bittersweet to leave in the middle of things...but I did get to have strawberry shortcake before we departed :)

We arrived E.A.R.L.Y this a.m. for another wedding in MO. Like 0015. Got some sleep, hit the White Grill with the Grands for lunch, loved on the Littles and then headed to the Chapel!

My cousin is getting married today. Weddings are such fun events, this was no exception. After a simple civil ceremony we enjoyed a lively reception afterwards. It was neat to see the family. Always good to catch up and see how much our children have grown and the new additions. Always good to meet new folks too and do some reuniting with old friends and acquaintances! Usually these events are full of mini reunions all over the room and always lots of fun! This was no exception.

The ceremony was short and sweet and did the job. My dad made sure I saw on his watch that it had lasted 16 minutes as I had piped in earlier we'd probably be done in under 15 minutes. I was only a tad off. And as dad put it we drove/would drive an hour (round trip) for each of those minutes.

At the reception we enjoyed some wonderful smoked meats and great sides! It was tasty. Thanks to the cookin' cousins for doing the spread, again, it was tasty! Then there were cupcakes, LOTS of cupcakes; and there was wedding cake of course, cause it was a wedding after all! Now those were all fine and good but I personally enjoyed the mints the most. They are my absolute favorite and I ate waaaaaay too many, but each one was yummy!  And just to clear any misconceptions, these are not store bought mints, which can be lovely, I like those too, especially the butter kind. Which are sometimes very difficult to find! BUT these, these mints were the homemade ones. Made with one of my favorite things, cream cheese! Oh yes, I did just say c r e a m c h e e s e. So, you know these are some kind of awesomegood mints and I did eat many; like 12 dozen or so, they are small. Okay, maybe not 12 dozen, maybe they aren't THAT small...I know I had at least A dozen :/ aaaaackkkkkk

So after our dining on the lovely meal and indulging in the cake there was dancing. LilBlue and MiB participated more in this than did I but MiB and I did take a turn on the dance floor. It was a wonderful, celebratory evening!

Thoughts on Thursday!

Hmmmm, thoughts...yes, I have some, but should they be blogged....yeah, no, probably not.

It's about to get crazy again. Which is all good. Lots of travel. Seeing the family and enjoying life, that is what makes the memories we enjoy to recall.

It's Thursday, which is usually Attic day but with the move and all I am calling it a home day. Usually I call these "catch up" days but since I have not been caught up since we moved I feel it is not an accurate phrase. It's more a still getting it together day. Anywho that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It's a weather day, tomorrow is also looking like a weather day. I don't like to travel in weather but there are times you have no choice. I just continue to pray for traveling mercies. We as well as LilBlue will be traveling this weekend, lots of miles in a short amount of time, yes, there will be lots of prayers said for our travels.

I am happy to report that taxes are done. That is a big thing to get to cross off my list. Just wish I had LilBlue's done as well, but I am working on that. I don't mind doing our taxes, it just take time and that is something I have not had a lot of lately. I am feeling like I am very behind in many things, but I am trying to stay the course and just continue to check off the items on the list. I know I am making progress, I see it but there are days I wonder and then there are days that more goes on the list then comes off.

Horses

Well today we had a very happy LilBlue but also a frustrated LilBlue. She was thrilled to be able to get down to the farm and be able to mess with the horses, however, she was frustrated because no one ever messes with the horses. She enjoys the horses, but she sees that they need more then they are getting in the the way of attention and training. It is so sad for her and she so wishes she could be around to take care of them, ride them, train them. It's a pretty big bummer for her. Ahhh, maybe someday she will have horses of her own!

Dakota and Lil'Blue

After messing around in the heat, we were all hungry so off to town in search of food we went. Blue Iguana got our business and it was tasty, I ate too much but man it was really good! Everyone enjoyed a little ride before heading back to the farm. After a a quick 35 minute power nap we were all ready to go to the livestock sale at the VCYF. We had hoped to bring home a goat, but the one we wanted was not for sale...probably best, we didn't really need a goat anyway!

Ummm, I hate to admit it but we went for ice cream AGAIN. Yes, my 6#s are back with a vengeance...I just pray that when we get to LA I can get back into the exercise routine and get back on track with eating healthy. It's really been a challenge with all the traveling, but I just keep thinking I will not be traveling that much longer! Some of us did not have have ice cream, some had apple pies, some had cheeseburger and fries...hmmmm, at least I didn't do that...I only had ice cream : )

Tomorrow it is our last day in MO. We are having a "winner, winner chicken dinner" with the family and we will finish packing up all our stuff and pray it fits in the vehicles we are driving. I really don't think there is a worry there but I guess it depends on how much we decide to take with us!!!

It's FRIDAY!

We have had another BIG day in MO, it's great to be a family again and with family. We have been on the go and it doesn't look like it is letting up anytime soon...today we hung out and then had a fabulous dinner before heading to the beef show at the VCYF.

It's been soooo hot, we also had ice cream on our way home. Uncle G joined us for that since he arrived in town for the weekend to spend some time with all of us before we go to LA. It is always a good thing to get to spend time with LilBlue and Uncle G; sweet times for all. Tomorrow the plan is to go to the farm for the day and mess with the horses. Since the horses haven't been "messed" with in a while I hope we do not end up in the ER...but LilBlue really wants to ride so we will see what we can do!

Happy Birthday I-S-A-bell

Happy Birthday my "little echo"!

My "little echo" turns THREE today! She is a treat, she is so full of sass but not in a naughty way, she has a time with her brother, lately, she is somewhat more mother then sister even though she is younger. They are the best of playmates and love, love, love each other to pieces. 

She is a girl with many identities in our family, she is G-Pa's sweetie pie, she is most often referred to as "sister" by her mother, "sissy" by her brother and of course she is one half of "the Littles" to many as well as my "little echo".  In addition I began calling her I-S -A-bell several months back so we could start learning to spell her name. She can "spell" it now...by saying her first three letters, I, then S, then A, then completing it with the word "bell". It works for us for now, we will learn the rest later, she is only three after all!

Some things I love about this little one: her hugs are the absolute best...truly she is a great hugger, she is a "good manners" kid and will ask you if she is being good, she is a self entertainer if you have her by herself and when she is with her brother they play well together. She has a sense of humor, she loves Looney Tunes and that puddie tat!  She laughs when she plays with her babies and talks up a storm to no one in particular. She is little, as in petite. She wants to be apart and in the middle of what you are doing even if you aren't really doing much. She loves to ask questions, she repeats nearly everything her brother says, which is why I call her "little echo"! Those are just a smidgen of the many things I could tell you about her! She is a true delight! (NOTE: I may be a little biased on this...)

There will be a "princess in the park" party tomorrow complete with a buttercream iced cake, cause this child loves icing! We will celebrate and it will be all about her. There was a time that we were not going to be able to have this party you know? Yes, that is correct! You see you cannot turn three if you wear a diaper...I know, I know you may not have been aware of this rule and neither was I-S-A-bell but we had to inform her. At first we weren't sure she was truly getting it but we were persistent and told her we were going to be sad if we did not get to buy her presents and eat birthday cake with her so she needed to learn to use the big girl potty and get rid of those nasty, wet, stinky diapers. There were several good days then it was back to the diapers, a good day here and there but still back to the diapers; then finally it all seemed to click with her. She has been diaper free for over three weeks now with only an accident or two. Yes, I know this is HUGE and we are all sooooo happy and thrilled we will be having a BIG birthday bash for her tomorrow. It's just grand! I'm so proud of her and all the bags of M&M's we bribed her with, err, I mean rewarded her with! She's a true BIG GIRL NOW! And just for the record I DID NOT start this rule of having to be pottied trained before turning three, nosiree, that my friend I do believe came from Aunt Turtle!

Joplin Tornado

Wow, how a moment can change so much. We know it, but usually it's "somebody else" this happens to, maybe someone related to someone we know, someone we sort of knew, you know, but not someone we really know! Because this, this was close, so very close, close to family and friends, people we know, people we really know, people who are more then just a face. This is J-town. The town we went to in high school to see the latest movie, to pick up the latest releases in music, to go shopping for back to school clothes, to go to dinner, it was THE town!

So last night as the graduation party was winding down and the news of the devastating storm started trickling in we went home and prayed and we were glued to the TV coverage of the storm. The ravaged town that we know so well has been hit hard We are praying for those who have suffered such huge losses...we are giving and participating in the supply gathering efforts around town and still waiting to hear that some are okay. It's tragic; it's terribly close to home.

She did it!

My beautiful, smart, extremely talented niece graduated today! We are all soooo very proud!

The celebration was awesome, so fun with bright colors and lots of family and friends of all ages to celebrate with her. The cake was YUMMERS, the food was delicious, chicken anyone, we had PLENTY! Loved the cheesy taters! Orange salad was great too, oh my, who am I kidding it was all fabulous! So thrilled I was able to be there!

Mother's Day

It was an awesome day...so nice to have LilBlue here with me this year! What a treat. Over the weekend we celebrated with MiBs mom and Uncle G. What a double treat. Course I didn't get the best steak in the country but some felt as if they did so I guess that is good :) LilBlue and I then shared Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, lemon, I had not ever had that kind! Yes, it was good!

Today we celebrated with my side of the family after a town ride this morning. After a great lunch of various and I do mean various smoked meats from salmon to deer, which were both AWESOME, thanks Uncle Jimmy!!!!! Then we spent the afternoon visiting on the deck in some gorgeous sunshine! Aunt Vic even thinks she got a tan...LOL! To round out our evening we took a country drive with my favorite chauffeur, Aunt Shari :) These drives are family tradition when we are together!

LilBlue took time out to rest twice once on Aunt Turtle's couch and then again at Aunt Vic's, after all, she is still in recovery from being toothless! When I ran out to pick her up from Aunt Vic's where she stayed during the country drive she wanted to stop for ice cream on the way home :). We did! Oh yeah, how much better of a life can I have? Well, it would have been over the moon had my MiB been here but still, trust me LIFE IS GOOD. I am such a blessed woman and I think I need to pinch myself after such a great day (weekend) as this!

I pray that your day was good...I know many who have a hard time with this day...choose joy is my thought for you, CHOOSE JOY in life no matter the day on the calendar. I believe you make your own happiness and if you aren't happy, I sincerely believe you are not only hurting yourself, but those around you. If you have lost your joy take steps to discover it once again, do not let those around you steal your joy, EVERYONE deserves to live life and only you can make the choices that allow you to LIVE it. Is my life perfect? HECK NO, but I choose to see it in a positive light, sometimes that is a second by second choice. And I choose to be positive most days and NOT BE a Debbie Downer. I choose to not take out my frustrations on those I love, your loved ones are NOT the enemy. I also choose not to hinge my happiness on a person, place or thing, I choose to choose joy; to love Jesus, who is my joy and is the only truly unchangeable asset in my life. More money will not make me happier, more things will not make me live longer...I think I got on a soapbox here...sorry, back to my original thought. I had a great weekend. That's all...

Flower Girl

 

Little #2 brings me flowers!!!

I was on Little duty this afternoon. Since it was so nice and sunny we had some outside time...I got "flowers" but even better I got lots of laughs and hugs from the Littles, we had a delightful afternoon together.

Thursday Thoughts!

Oh yeah, it's Thursday! I am Whiteman AFB, MO.  I was here last summer on a Midwest visit as well and this time instead of giving me a visitor pass (which I thought was so stinkin' crazy, HELLO, I have a miitary ID), they "put me in the system" so now I feel all so special! I am officially in DBIDS, I officially don't have a clue what that means but the young Airman who scanned my left and right index fingers and took a urine sample and put me in "the system" seemed mighty pleased...so I figure I might as well be too!

So since I drove up last night I got to have high speed internet and man did I feel like I was livin large! I was surfin' the net for a good portion of my evening while I watched, well, let's just say I tuned into something other then FOX news...

Thoughts:

• This trip brought back MEMORIES!
•  I'm praying today is productive in every way!
• I've  had Mexican food three nights in a row :)
• College students are sooooo young nowadays!

My college days home after a year in the dorms! I was in unit A the one on the far left!

 

I know I mentioned last year when I passed through the Burg that my college now has an over the road crosswalk. So yesterday as I was driving by I snapped these two pictures! They are not great, but I was driving ya know so they are what they are. Anyway I think it's really cool and I'm glad they finally did it cause I remember it being quite dicey somedays to get across there.

And speaking of college, our college girl is doing real good and I'm so excited I will see her before this day is over, whoot whoot! She will get to be here through Sunday afternoon. She was very excited yesterday when I talked with her because she finally got to meet with an academic adviser who could approve and plug in her transfer classes, she is much closer then she thought to being done. She is also taking summer classes this year to move even closer to that goal of being done! She's doing good and for that I'm soooo thankful, I just pray that her body continue to heal and recover from the crash last fall, she is still in treatment but we are hopeful she will continue improving and being back to where she was before this happened!

I gotta motor, the clinic awaits me...let's hope I am "CLEARED"

Baseball Season

I like baseball. I don't LOVE it, but I like it, I always enjoyed going to watch the KC Royals play when I was younger and I still remember taking LilBlue to her first Royals game, it was fun no matter if I traipsed up and down the stairs many times to change/feed her! However, I do not remember that the games seemed to go on forever. Maybe they do not. But my experience in the past couple weeks with high school baseball has been L O N G and what seems like at time never ending!

It's been great to see T play, he is a pretty good ball handler. I have watched him over the years in the summers when we have been back and able to catch a game or two or three or a tournament here and there. I have seen him mature as a ball player; of course not to the extent "the locals" have but I have certainly seen it! There is something to be said for sports and helping mold kids into more well rounded adults. I think that is very true. I know when I first saw him play I was a bit surprised, I mean he was a great kid but you put him on the field and if he "missed" a play or things didn't go quite right, well you better watch out this little guy could have major attitude/temper. In the high school playing I have not seen anything other then a great solid player who does try very hard. Yes, he has struck out, so did Babe Ruth, and he has missed some balls and plays, but all players do that and will in this sport. The difference I see is that he is learning to shake it off, keep going and try his best not to repeat that particular event again. THAT is the awesome part in my opinion, he's learning, he's maturing and he's being a team player! YEAH!

I would like to also mention that the weather for the games I have attended has been really crazy. The first game it was COLD and windy, I mean really cold, next game was really great weather, the way they should all be! The next one was warm, I got 'dewy' but it was not unbearble, just a bit warm and thankfully there was a great breeze and I had a nice cool diet coke with me :) Last night the weather was windy and a bit on the chilly side though not terrible. The second game I found myself in the comfort of the vehicle and still had a great view and I think I made a smart decision there! I just wish it would not have been a 9 hour odyssey. I knew the drive over was 1.5 hours but I was under the impression there was just one game, much to my chagrin there were two and again, 9 hours later we are rolling into the driveway after a double-header. They won, they actually smeared them. It was almost embarrassing.

So that is my baseball adventure to date, it is not over yet. There is another game Friday night, it is a home game so travel time will be in under 5 minutes! Hopefully, I will only be attending one game, we'll see. I hear there may be some pitching in his future, which is not a new talent just one that may start to be tapped for this team. I hope so, I think it would be good for everyone!

GO TIGERS~

As far as a picture to accompany the post, well ya know how it is a fenced or screened in area for the protection of the spectators? Yeah, well that also means no decent photos...especially with a cell phone! Maybe another time!

PROM!!

Let me start with  this whole “PROMenade” This was new to me and I will just start off with saying I don’t think it bad but I’m glad we didn’t do it when I was there. The Prom goers “arrive” and by arrive I mean they come in all manner of transportation. Some were in muscle cars and trucks, semis (minus the trailers), Hummers, Escalades, traditional limo’s, BIG stretch limos, Hummer limo’s, convertibles of all types from mustangs to VW bugs, new vehicles, not so new vehicles, daily drivers, once a year...if that rides, some that shouldn’t be driven at all, a dune buggy, a T-bucket, a Porsche, a BMW, corvettes, golf carts, a moped and even a red SMART were in the lineup. And I do mean lineup; as this whole arrival thing last over two hours. It was a warm day, these girls had to be melting in those dresses cause some of those modes of transportation did not have A/C!

My niece was privileged and VERY honored to be able to drive Uncle Jimmy’s Rumble Bee. You may not think this is a BIG DEAL but it was, oh trust me it was. Not only is it a very coolio truck, it is probably Uncle Jimmy’s most prized procession. This truck has never seen rain, snow, sleet or hail…obviously Uncle Jimmy is NOT a postman! LOL She arrived in style, all smiles and was thrilled to be able to have the use of UJ’s truck!

There are several things that were unique this year for NHS that gave me even more fodder for the whole “that’s certainly NOT the way it was" when we were there storyline! I mean can you believe that they bussed them on charter buses to Ft Scott for the Prom? Well, they did! Unreal, we had ours in the gym, we decorated for days to transform the gym into something magical! We ate our dinner in our school cafeteria and the underclassmen served us, it wasn’t grand but it was the way we did it. Now they eat on their own.

I guess change is good; it’s just not the way it was…

I hope they are all safe and everyone has a good time!!!!

I'm back in the MidWest

I am back in the land of the MidWest...it is cold, I don't want to be a whiner so that is all I will say about that.

I am contemplating my next adventure and the one after that. I am also looking forward to the passing of 81 days, however, I am not going to count the days, but I plan to make the days count.

Hawaii was awesome and I think we will definitely be planning to visit again, even though MiB thinks he would like to live there, I'm not so sure. However, if the opportunity arose I have a feeling we would be going without a second thought!

I'm still really tired from the trip, trying not to take a nap and hoping for an excellent, restful, night's sleep tonight.

Thursday Thoughts!

Oh my, my, my it's so white all around me!

I think I am hibernating, really, til at least Saturday I will NOT be out and about in the white! Saturday though will be a different story as we make our way North for another SOUNDSATIONAL singers competition. That's right we will trek to Harrisonville, MO to cheer on the singers! My niece sings with this group, she is good, I mean exceptionally good, I am not biased, I am truthful. I have gone to a few of the competitions over the years and I have heard and seen good and NOT so good...she is good! So that is Saturday and that will probably be the next time I go out...unless I walk up the lane to the mailbox cause I need some fresh air :P

Short and sweet since internet is not readily available and getting this uploaded is a monumental task in this white world! Oh who am I kidding, the white world has NOTHING to do with the challenge of uploading, the non existent internet does...I love being in the sticks...guess that's what happens when you are homeless!

• I'm craving a Boca burger 
• Love my dad's veggie soup!
• I'll be in HI in just 27 more days!
• White world makes it tough to exercise : (
