Day 27 - Wedding

In just nine s.h.o.r.t. months we will be at a wedding. That's right our own LilBlue is getting married to the Bud. It's not going to be the easiest day of our life but it won't be the hardest either. There will be joy and sadness.

Because I know you want to know here is what I know. There will be an intimate ceremony at a tiny little church south of the Big O where the Bud's grandmother attended. When I say intimate I mean only immediate family will be at the actual wedding ceremony. The church has nine pews. MiB and I got to see it when we were in the Big O over Labor Day. To find out how many we could seat on those nine pews MiB & I sat bum to bum and came up with the very scientific figure of 54. Which works well since the count for this part of the day is looking like a potential for 45ish. I just hope the AC works well and that it's not too much of a scorcher.

There is only one area for dressing so we are supposed to come up with some sort of room divider. Yeah, not sure how that will work or if it will happen. I'm thinking she will just have to let whoever needs to do their thing do it first then she will take over the area. All others will have to stay out.

Wedding party you say? Notsomuch, just her and the Bud and potentially some Little people. I personally have no issues with this aspect but I'm surprised that others have sort of frowned when they heard it. Hey people, it's HER day so whatever she wants to do I'm trying to do. So I really do feel as though it's all her day, well and the Bud's... so who, what and how she wants to do it is pretty much okay with me. Unless you are going to be an investor- read that pay for it, which MiB and I are, I say you have notsomuch a say-so, she does and that's how we're rolling. I don't need her stressing over this, she has to get through this last year of school successfully and plan her wedding how she would like it be, period.

The reception which will be later in the evening is going to be a little bit of cake, punch and finger food affair. Family will partake in a meal in between the ceremony and reception. Nothing fancy just basic nourishment. LilBlue loves chicken fingers so that's what we are having. At one point I thought she was going to do pasta since the Bud seems partial to that but she said too messy! LOL Come on let's just do pizza and call it good I mean they both love that and so do I!

The reception will be at a hall in the town we used to live in. Mostly his/her friends, little cake cutting, little dancing and call it an evening. Decorating and doing the food for this will be the big job. I think we have nailed down many things but we are still working on some of the finer details. Cake maker is not secured nor is day of help. Hoping the hall comes through with the ceiling decorator (she wants lights and lanterns hung). It's hard to coordinate a lot of this so far away. And because I think I should not plan to do so much myself we will have to have help.

I have to say we have had much success with finding things on Craigslist, I have been uber pleased about that! Table linens and chair covers were picked up this way for way cheaper then renting. Hopefully, she can re-list them to help someone else out. We have also scored some other items in the most unlikely places, which I love! We are still scouring regularly to pick up other items. It's been fun and challenging.

I don't quite have her vision for the ceremony, but I do have a good feel for what she would like the reception venue to be. She has sent me a floor plan and we know the basic table set up and such but we are still acquiring table decor. I love that she is open-minded and the tables don't have to be matchy-matchy! That makes it easier right there. We have been gathering vases, candle holders and votive cups along with some frames. We have been sale gathering items from Michaels and Hobby Lobby with weekly coupons.

Colors are for now sage and eggplant. Nothing settled on exactly what flowers but there is still plenty of time. I do know she is leaning towards lillies and roses I think. Roses would be somewhat symbolic, I think she will go with white ones. Many other things remain to be seen, but again we are chipping away at it every week. I know it will all come together for her day and all is well!

And many things can and will evolve in the coming days and months and that's fine, we will make it work the best we can with what we got to get it how she wants.

Why the Day +# postings, look here to see what's up!

Day 13 - Neighbors

Neighbors are funny things, sometimes they are pretty darn cool and other times they are downright strange, once in awhile they are more than you could ask for. We have run the gamut with our neighbors over the years. Most have been friends and we have kept in touch with many of them even if it is only the yearly Christmas card.
In OK we had upstairs neighbors in our first apartment that we had a great relationship with. And in fact with the great timewaster invention of facebook we have reconnected. They are ones we kept up with years with annual Christmas cards. Moved on to the base and had stellar yard neighbors who again we do the annual Christmas card exchange; our wall mates there notsomuch. Onto Colorado and again facebook has been the most recent way we have kept in touch with our wall mate. Our cul de sac neighbors who were LilBlues best friends we have kept up with over the years through little care packages from our different assignments and we even met up in FL for a fun one day reunion a few years back. Another one of the cul de sac neighbors that LilBlue connected with we reunited with in NE a few years ago! That's the beauty of this AF world. Unfortunately in VA neighbors were not so friendly and while we were always cordial there were no real connections made. And the connections that were made in our neighborhood we did not keep up with! Part of that was us. We were in an apartment complex and our location while we loved it did not open us up to much neighborly interaction. On to AL and we did have awesome good neighbors. They have even called every now and again just out of the blue. I think they think it's fun to track us down and get in touch and say, "so where are you now and what are you doing?" LOL

In Italy our neighbors definitely win THE BESTEST EVER award...seriously, we loved them and I think they thought we were pretty okay.

Recent reunion with Italian neighbors.

The kids!

In NE we knew our neighbors but we were not all that close. However, LilBlue did enjoy that area and is still there. It's a friendly midwestern feel and she loves it. We always take the time to drive through our old neighborhood when we go back to visit.

In FL MiB and I had one doozy of a neighbor, just think whack job. But while not a true next door neighbor we had great on the street friends who were truly awesome. They were 3 Doors Down and we spent many a Sunday evening together as well as several mandatory fun events which were made way better due to the relationship the four of us shared. Moving on to LA and we have some great neighbors once again, in fact we are surrounded by awesomeness. It is neat to know the block or curves as I call it so to speak and since we are off in our own little neck of the woods it's great to be able to reach out if needed for a myriad of things!

2nd Annual Columbus Day Gathering--even though last year it was known as the New Kids on the Block Party!

Just a couple of the curves kids :)

Queen B with her Marine daddy
Our LA neighbors at our recent block party!

Ordinary life is made way better with good great neighbors (who are also friends)!

New blue for LilBlue :0) MiB gets gray...

Finally after two years of searching we have found the replacement vehicle for LilBue. You do not know because I chose not to blog the crash that Lilblue was in that totaled her car and sent her to the hospital via ambulance. It is the phone call you NEVER ever want to receive. I literally thought I would pass out talking to her on the phone. I was way too far away and my child was hurt and I could not get there fast enough. The next seven days were hell as we worked through all the events of the accident or crash as I like to call it. After two years we have finally seen the end of the mountain of paperwork, insurance claims and did I say lots of paperwork. I am thrilled it is done. I just pray that we never go through that again.

So the last two years we have tried to find a replacement car for the car that was totaled in the crash. Speaking of that crash she likes to make it known that it was NOT her fault a man crossed three lanes of traffic hit her and two other cars. We have scoured the car lots, Craigslist and AutoTrader for a new accord. Finally last Saturday we were at the Honda dealer in Shreveport ordering a replacement park for my roof racks and there sat a blue accord. We were not too excited usually we find them and they just don't meet our standards...this one was promising. It was the right model, interior and mileage. So far, so good, but a bit out of our price range and missing a couple desired wants. Decisions, decisions...hmmmm, end of the month sales were in our favor, after much negotiation and trading in our Mazda we own THE car.

Finding out that the blue car over there is hers...

 Happy Girl!

 LilBlue with THE car!

Delivery was made today and she was thrilled and so were we! PTL :)

And ohbytheway, we went to Ft Worth a few weeks ago to get the oil changed on LilSmartie and came home with Deuce. I know we are just car buying crazies lately! Don't worry this only happens every four years or so! And after this I'm staying away from the dealership, it's too costly. But again, PTL, we are cash buyers and no payments needed thankyouverymuch cause that's the way we roll!

 MiB w/Deuce!

The added bonus is that we got to see LilBlue unexpectedly due to the fact we drove it up to her to deliver it and we'll get to see her all day today and tomorrow before we head back to LA bright and early Sunday morning. Extra bonus is that we got out ahead of hurricane Isaac, which from what I understand was not nearly as bad as they had thought. And another perk is that we had White Grill on the way up and will be stopping again on the way back. Life is GOOOOOOD!

Home again...

Long day...six states and two White Grill cheeseburgers later and we are home. It is good to be in our own space. While we do enjoy the travel it is nice to look at the rest of May and know that we are supposed to be home. I think we are both looking forward to getting some home time. Perhaps some of those still not hanging on the wall items will be hanging, or not! Looks like we are going to have visitors. I am UBER excited about that, hope it all works out that they can come :)

MiB getting us checked out from Offutt

So it wasn't easy to leave the girl, but she IS doing good and I know she is only going to improve. I am sad that we didn't get to do more, but there is only so much you can do when one is recovering. I am just thankful we could be there and help her through this. I know she is still in good hands, the Bud has taken over. I am thankful for so many unspoken things this evening, God is good!

I'm off to bed, I know I am hoping for a wonderfully restful night in my own bed! NIGHT :)

Rolling along w/recovery

LilBlue is recovering nicely. Lots of napping, lots of hydration, several deep breaths and a bit of coughing along with little walks, short trips out and many prayers. She is doing well...

Thankful for electronic devices, they seem to be very popular during this recovery period! And the Bud he is popular too :) especially with LilBlue. MiB is not nor will never be a nurse/caregiver. He just doesn't have that patient quality...he is almost as high maintenance as the recovering LilBlue...just sayin! I'm glad he has his laptop and I can't believe I am saying this but I am even glad he has the one for work. It has helped him not be so stir crazy!

I am thrilled that today was a good day for her, she is really getting better each day. I am really not sure I am ready to leave her. I am considering bringing her back to LA with us, but she would have to be back here for her follow-up, so not sure that would work. Car travel for her would be rough for that many miles, and air travel might not be great at this point in recovery, decisions, decisions! UGHHHHHH, I am soooooo torn.

But again I am so thankful today was a good day! Answer to many prayers. Who knew gall bladder surgery was so rough, I certainly did not!

Lugguge & Storms : /

It's funny but it's not. My BiL went through an unwanted divorce last year and of course we are still learning about "things" each time we see him. Not necessarily about the divorce itself but about how he is doing life since the divorce. This weekend was one of those instances that gave us all a little chuckle.

He has been to see us in LA several times and we have met in MO a few times. He came to NE to be with us for LilBlue's surgery. I guess I didn't pay that much attention to his "luggage" on earlier trips. However, as he was packing up to leave this morning I did notice his traveling containers as MiB put it. MiB was also giving him a hard time about his so called "luggage"...we joked that it looked like "the Clampett's go to Maui" had landed in NE! All he needed to complete his ensemble was a Piggly Wiggly bag or two! Then I ask him seriously if he even knew where his luggage was (since he has most of his things stored) and he assured me that yes he did. So now I have a good future gift idea or as MiB told him we have more then enough extra pieces of luggage that we could share with him. Odd the things you can come out or without in a BIG D. Sounds sucky to me. Such is his life, he is making the best of it and I am glad we could find humor in it!

G's "luggage"

In other news the G>B>O> recovery is still progressing well. Rest was interrupted for several hours last night due to storms in the area that not only knocked out the electricity for a few hours but blew down trees, tore off siding and just in general made it hard to sleep. Unfortunately, a spewing episode has also reared its ugly head again :( but overall we are still moving forward!

This was just across the way from the house where we are staying.

I also saw a lot of  FaceBook postings of other damage in the area. Appears there were no injuries, thankfully, but a little bit of clean up will be needed! Going to have a laid back easy day here in the Big O, continuing to pray for LilBlue to recover without complications and as pain free as possible!

G>B>O> day

Today is Gall Bladder Out day for LilBlue.

 Uncle G and LilBlue

Uncle G was with her in pre op and was always making sure they knew we were here for gall bladder removal...he wanted to draw a bullseye around her belly button for the doctor but since we had not met said doctor yet we thought maybe not a good thing...but you have to admit IT would have been funny!

I am still amazed that she needs to have this little organ removed but she does. It's only functioning at 5% according to the HIDA scan. We have been putting this off til after finals and I know she is ready to feel better. This has been a real pain, literally, for her and she sooooo wants it to be done. So we headed to The Tower this morning EARLY for gall bladder removal.

With Lately our intake nurse and me too in this one :)

 Dr B and LilBlue :0)

After meeting him we think he would've gotten a kick out of the bulls eye around her belly button!

Emerald the OR nurse was a keeper!

After they took her away we went in search of ... what else? F O O D  I know just what we needed. However, who knew Don & Millie's is not open for breakfast? We do now! Back to the "store front" since the cafeteria is under renovation. They did have Starbuck's coffee, but it was a pastry for MiB, muffin for G and I stuck with a cereal bar from my hospital bag! Along with our second dose of the day caffeine we were good to go!

Resting...

Before long she was out of the OR with a success report...gall bladder is gone! We finally got to see her in recovery after what seemed like forever but in reality was around 90 minutes. She was good...that lasted, hmmm, til the apple juice. A few setbacks, change of the Rx, some walking, tinkling and finally just over 12 hours after surgery we were cleared to leave. She was doing well.

While waiting for the "good to go" MiB caught a few Zzzz's

She is currently resting on the couch, the Bud is here and we are all pretty much chilling and ready for some rest. I know I am sooooo ready for a good night's sleep, here's hoping that happens tonight :) Also soooo thankful for answered prayers, prayers of others and a Great Physician that we can count on!
Ciao!

Thursday Thoughts

These road trips are taking their toll! We our now in the Big O with LilBlue and it's great to see her. We got to have dinner at one of our favorite spots. Though I must say things have changed and not for the better IMO. You no longer get to "build your bowl" and refills are not free :( However, food was still awesome so not all was lost!

 LilBlue lovin' her Khan's

They scored platters...that is always MiB's goal!

Speaking of food, here we are eating every time we turn around, it's bad! Seriously, it's bad...this morning we started our day having breakfast with the boys. Yes, all the boys were together for the first time in a long time. It was good, it was funny, it was loud. And did I mention the food was good. Two of the brothers had B's&G's the other one had a cheese burger and suzie's. I will let your imagination wonder of who was who :)

Momma and the Boyz!

Glad we are able to be in the Big O with LilBlue for tomorrow. Praying it all goes well.

Thoughts:
  • Tired, very tired...
  • Thankful for nice billeting!
  •  Going to be an EARLY a.m.
  • Praying for doctors and nurses...

Thursday Thoughts!

MiB will be back tomorrow! Happy Dance! Happy Dance!!!

I will be thrilled to see him again and catch up on all the details of the trip. He gets in somewhat late and I am sure he will be tired so I imagine a sleep in Saturday then perhaps just some hanging out! My kind of day. He did a great job keeping up his blog so I feel pretty up to date but I know there is more and I want to hear alllllll about it!

This weekend is the SuperBowl. Even if you are not a football fan you can appreciate the getting together and eating part can you not? I can. But I do like football as well. I will cheering on the Patriots, I like their colors, RW&B. So go Pats! Looking forward to another neighborhood gathering as we talk, eat and do a little game watching. Making a big pot of veggie chili to share along with some pineapple cupcakes!

And if you are wondering the teeth are waaaaay fine, like back to normal. I'm also trying to be a better flosser. It's the little things!

Thursday Thoughts
  • Loving the weather here!
  • Ready for some pizza on Sunday.
  • Still undecided on spring break :/
  • Snowmen have been put up for the winter...

I be all green!

MiB made it safely to the BigO and indeed did see LilBlue. I be green with envy...she fixed dinner for him. Well, okay not really, but it seemed like it! Wednesdays are "family night" and she and her roommates plus or minus a few others always plan to have dinner together. I love it! MiB got to join them! I don't know what they had but the pictures looked yummy!

I don't know why he chose to take one of her driving unless to show me she is still gorgeous no matter what she does...and make me notice she is wearing classy pearl earrings. She do take after her momma!!!

Pretty sure these are their dinner plates...looks uber yummmmmm!

I'm thinking this is after they ate, but I could be wrong. Since I got NO commentary with the photos I'm jus guessin here!

This is at Orange Leaf where she took him for dessert! Should of talked to her about that...he really don't need no dessert :/ This travelin' and eatin' the past two weeks is killing his girlie figure!

Anyway, I think they had a fab time and I am REALLY, really happy that his schedule allowed (even if he ditched dinner with his colleagues to see her) him to spend some time with her.  It was about a month ago we put her on the plane to go back to the BigO

Lest you think I was alone and having a pittying me party I was not, it was WW and we had a fabulous time as always!

And we took us a picture too, so phffff! And we missed YOU, Ms SpeechWriter!

MiB also got to reconnect with some of our Offutt buddies!
 Awww...

This is a "boy" we knew from our first assignment! We were in the same squadron as his parents and now he is all grown up wouldn't ya say? His birthday is tomorrow...he will be only like 10 or so cause we haven't gotten any older since that assignment 24 years ago or so!

So off to bed it's waaaaay past my bedtime and I gotta get me some sleep so I can be at the Attic all day tomorrow! Not to be confused with IN the Attic, we don't have an attic, well, we do it is on the base, but it's not an attic, we just call it the Attic. I know you completely understand this now... NIGHT!

Almost 2-1-12

Can you believe we are almost ready to close the books on January 2012? It's been a quick month. So with January closing out that means the snowmen get put away and the Happy Heart Month things come out. I am not a big seasons decorator, but since I have started shopping my own space I find I can make up some pretty decent seasonal settings. That's exactly what I did today. I really do not have that many Valentine's decorations but I do have several red things and by bringing all of it together it looks pretty good I think!

In the center of the BIG table (and yes that is my same plate from Christmas and my BUNCO winner candle AND those are beads from my Christmas tree)!

This is just a little area that I am never quite sure what to do with...I like it!

These are from two areas on the buffet. I took a picture of the who thing but it wasn't very good so I used the closer ups. That note is from 1984. MiB sent me flowers at school and this was the card with them, I know right, alltogethernow, "ahhhhhhhh"

Speaking of MiB just got a text and he has landed outside of St Louis for the night and then on to the BigO tomorrow. I know he will glad when he arrives back home, it's been a whirlwind for him for sure. I hope he is home long enough next month that we can move. You did know I'm moving next door, right? Oh, well, in due time I am sure I will post about it but yes, we are supposed to move in February RIGHT NEXT DOOR. I'm thrilled, NOT.

Are you ready for the new month? Well ready or not it's here :)

Weekend Update!

It's been a blast hanging out with our daughter! Soooo good to see her and get to be with her. We miss that girl. We are just having a good time being together. Life is good. I am so sorry I have not taken any pictures. We are doing lots, I just haven't been thinking about getting pictures...bad, I know. But I am so full of joy just being able to be us as a family again it's unbelievable. So taking pictures has just totally slipped my mind!

We have car shopped for LilBlue with no success, we have shared meals, hung out, done laundry, drove around, and just goofed off. We've hung out in the rooms, hers and ours! Ate w/the Bud and his family (Olive Garden, Pete the waiter was the best!) as well, life IS good. Looking forward to being in MO together for a few days this week too.

Until I write again, enjoy life today, it is too short not too!

Oh, and we did have some vehicle success. More on that later :) PTL!

the Gracious Family

Many of you know about our short stint of basement living...this was a week ago today after my reunion stay with that family on my visit out to Vegas. We had a wonderful few days together, it was incredible to me how much the girls have grown, how easy we all fell back into an easy routine together. It was a soooo good to see them!

 The whole family with me!

The girls and I!

She's a Maverick now!

On Tuesday lil'blue and I spent a rainy day in Omaha checking in at her new school. We took care of her housing contract, paid a visit to the finance office to chat with the VA rep, stopped in at the security office for parking info, double checked residency status, checked her schedule and just made sure we were getting everything done we were supposed to for a smooth transition in August.

So far, so good! I am thrilled with the answers we got from the VA rep, all paperwork IS in order and even if the $$ doesn't come in at the appointed balance due time, we do not have to pay it, they will suspend the bill til the VA gets the payments to them...that is a great bit of news. Her book stipend will be twice a year as long as she takes a minimum of 12 hours and if there is $$ left they will help with any summer books she might need, should she decide to take classes (which I think she will be). So again, I say, so far so good!

And just so you know I am now on Offutt and living large in a suite...goodness, I feel truly taken care of, it's too bad I am leaving to head back to MO tomorrow...but dad and I are going to pal around for a couple days just me and him so it's all good!

Sorry there are no pics from the campus visit but it was raining and I didn't lug anything around that wasn't necessary that day!

Here I am!!!

Did you miss me??? I know, I missed you!

So we made it from FL to MO for Father's Day and now we am in NE. Weather cooperated for the most part the whole time (well, there was that 40 minutes or so outside Springfield MO but we won't talk about that)!

So here I am sitting in a non par hotel room that I am still feeling unsure about but think I am glad to have it considering the circumstances...CWS in Omaha, NE I mean who knew, I sure didn't! When we planned to be in Bellevue this week I just thought nothing of it! The friend who we were supposed to be staying with has sick, sick, sick kids; since I so didn't want to get in on that action I went to plan b - however, it was a no go, plan c just didn't work out either, so plan d is where I am now...it's only for one night, cause that is ALL they had, so tomorrow I may not be in NE anymore, Toto. At least I will have a little more daylight to work out different accommodations.

I mean I lived here for 4 years, I know about the CWS, it just failed to register that the week we were coming up was during that HUGE event...so my bad...oh, well, we have already completed a nice chunk of our to do list and tomorrow we are off to check out the new school to complete even more! It's going to be all good in the end.

Not much of an update I know, but it's the best I can do. I have had little to no internet access.

I'm now going to head on out to make some drive arounds and see what's changed since we left! Then I am hoping for some good sleeping and a full productive day tomorrow!

As for a 365 update the MiB is in his new locale and from all indications it is going well. I actually spoke with him today (1st time) and he sounded tired but upbeat. We have been emailing, texting, facebooking since he left so the phone call was a nice upper to my sort of downer day in relation to the whole no place to stay thing!

So we are both surviving this year apart and my traveling has been going well. I just hope living the nomadic life for a year continues to agree with me. I'm totally excited and ready and both MiB and I think it's the chance of a lifetime for me to be happily homeless by choice!

She's gone...

A quick change in flights had lilblue leaving a day early...our girl is quickly preparing to start on another semester of school in MO. The weather in Omaha, her stopover for a few days, is not good today, so yesterday we switched her ticket to get her in before the bad weather hit. Now she has a few days in the big O before flying back to KC on Saturday and driving back up to school on Sunday to begin classes on Monday. The weather is suppose to be clear for the Saturday flight and on Sunday it is looking fine for her drive back to school as well, though I will still be praying until she is safely back at school!

It was delightful to have her around the house these past weeks, it just added something to everyday to have her bounding down the stairs each morning (well, okay, honestly, sometimes it was afternoon before she came down). Still, we will miss her smiling face, her laugh, her hugs.

Hmmmm, how many days til Spring finals??? Okay, let's not wish our time away. She is taking quite a load this semester to include calculus and discreet math, glad it is her and not me! I am not a math girl but that is not to say I can't do a mean to the penny balance on the checkbook :) I certainly can, thank you very much!

Upcoming in our world is the WDW marathon, updates to follow!

Friday Fun

I am sooooo thankful to see these beautiful flowers right outside my door! They always bring a smile to my face as I come and go, they are so sunny and bright looking, a sure sign of spring, even when the temperature makes me wonder if spring is going to show up before May or not.
I spent the day with a four year old...can you say busy? Well, the little Tootsie Roll and I actually had a relaxed morning at home then we headed over to the "apple place" for playtime, did a couple errands, lunch, another errand and picked up dinner (take and bake pizza) then back home in time to meet the older girls after school; more playtime outside, including bubbles. Then we enjoyed a pizza dinner, movie night and finally dad coming home...whew, what a day! But I think everyone had fun, I know I did, even if I am ready for bed tonight!
A few pictures of bubble time with the Tootsie Roll!

Hmmmm, it is Thursday!

Wowsa, I feel as though I lost this week, it shouldn't be Thursday already, but the calendar says it is, so here we are.

Thursday Thoughts:
  • I have the sniffles...
  • Radiation x 2 in the books and feeling good.
  • Spring still seems to be eluding us here in NE!
  • Hot tea is awesome when you have a sore throat
  • In less then 30 days my MiB will be here =)

There you have it, thoughts for Thursday, not much as my brain feels a bit foggy from a touch of a cold that started as one really bad sore throat and now has progressed to a sniffling nose. Could be worse so I am not complaining. I would really like to enjoy some sunshine but it seems to be nonexistent for more then a couple hours at a time and then the temperatures do not match the shine, brrrr, we are still no where near what I call spring temps! However, I hate to really complain cause once it warms up it will surely get HOT and I am not a big fan of that either...anywho, have a great day!
