Day 12 - Friends

Life is better with friends. It is no ordinary thing that we have friends literally all over the world. It is quite a blessing really. We love our friends as much as our family because in our world friends become family! Life is better with friends for sure

Recently we met up with friends at Oktoberfest. It made the night way more fun! It is always good to connect with our friends and sadly it doesn't happen often enough but we are grateful for the times it does. Then the next day we met up with our AFSA friends. They are so much fun and really know how to make us feel a part of the gang!

Me with Miss BC

Let's not forget out community friends. They really have made us feel a part and always greet us warmly with big smiles and hugs. They certainly know how to make us feel loved!

I think friendships are definitely part of ordinary life :) We are so very blessed for the friendships we share with so many!

Day 11 - Cars

Do you notice the kind of cars other people drive? Seriously, I do not. Now MiB does. Is it a guy thing? Well, I sort of thought so but then my own LilBlue makes comments about other peoples "rides" so maybe it is just a personal observation thing.

Anyway, my point is some people are curious about this sort of thing some are not. Just thought I would share what's being driven in our household. Since 2003 we have had at least one Honda in our fleet. Right now we have two. We like Honda's. MiB is in a Mercedes Benz. Now it's not a traditional waaaaaaay expensive Benz like you might think but it falls under the Benz family name!

MiB with his '13 SMART which we affectionately call Deuce.

My little red ride '08 Honda CRV

I personally try not to be overly attached or too personal with our vehicles. I mean after all my biggest thing is getting in a vehicle and just wanting it to start to get me from point A to point B. Pretty much I do not have a relationship with my vehicle like some people do. I see them as necessities and not much more. I love when they work and work properly cause NO BODY likes car troubles.

We really aren't car namers either with the exception of  MiBs first SMART which we called SMARTie and now the new SMART is deuce. And I guess we did call our first little CRV LilRed but we aren't so much on the naming thing. Though I do think that is part of ordinary life. Do you name your vehicles?

Day 10 - Cooking

I enjoy cooking! I used to do it much more frequently. I am not so much of a baker though, I wish sometimes I was especially when I need to take something somewhere. I do have a couple standby recipes and that's normally what I show up with. Seems more often then not when you are asked to bring something it's a dessert!

The schedule we keep doesn't really allow for me to make what I call sit down meals much anymore, which truly is better for our waistlines! Seriously, in our younger days our meals were meat, potatoes w/gravy and a veggie or two along with rolls/bread. If I ate like that now it would be serious trouble. So I only cook that way occasionally! MiB still enjoys meals like that so it's a treat when he gets it!

Most meals as of late with our little bit cooler weather are homemade soups. We love veggie soup and will eat on a big pot of that for a few days, also chili, we enjoy homemade chili, usually vegetarian! I love the roasted veggie version and MiB will take it anyway he can get it, beef or veggie kind! I won the base chili cookoff earlier this year with my roasted veggie version, thankyouverymuch! I made an African Stew recipe earlier this month that was awesome served over a scoop of quinoa! It was a new recipe that may continue to make an appearance on our table.

We aren't vegetarians but I would say it wouldn't be a stretch for us to be. We don't eat much meat. It's just not something we feel we have to have. Not anymore anyway. Now that's not to say that MiB doesn't fire up the grill and make us a great little petite filet to go with a baked sweet or white potato and green salad. And I also love a good hamburger and so does MiB (which IMO is not that easy to get so I usually stick to getting them at only places I know they rock) at White Grill in my hometown.

It's a part of ordinary life to cook, I do enjoy it but I do not find myself in the kitchen preparing meals so much as I once did. It's all good, it's just a season, I'm sure making meals for two will once again be part of my ordinary life again, maybe sooner rather than later~

Day 9 - Voting

In just under a month our nations will elect new leaders starting at the top down. I am not going to go into politics AT ALL, but I will say I did my civic duty and voted with my absentee ballot today. I hope everyone will vote, I honestly do want to believe every vote counts...

Happy Tuesday all...make your day count just like I am making my vote count!

Day 8 - Laptop

I am a computer type of gal...well sort of! Who would have thought that. I also love, love, love having the internet at my fingertips. Literally, I have it on my phone, we have wi-fi in our house allowing me to take my laptop with me anywhere and be connected. I do love it and when I am somewhere I cannot/do not have this easy access I can get/be a bit c.r.a.n.k.y. This is the case when we travel and when we visit family. Crazy I know but it's true.

My laptop with me in bed on a recent lazy morning :)

Being in MO with family is killer as there is NO internet at my parents. We have a few wi-fi options but you have to "drive to town" so to speak, thank goodness for Mickey D's, and Hardee's! LOL Anyway, I enjoy internet, what did we do before that? I remember when we first got internet. We really didn't Twin #2 did. He was living with us at the time and he wanted to get it and see what it was all about. I really didn't think it was all that great. It wasn't until we moved to COS that I fully got the whole internet thing. I loved it, I used it and I truly cannot imagine life without it. We were dial up f.o.r.e.v.e.r. In fact it wasn't until we lived in Italy that we had the high-speed stuff! Then when we came back to the states we stuck with that. It's amazing stuff.

If I were getting to be really extravagant and all I would be sportin' an Apple iPad...but since I'm not I am happy to use my trusty little ole HP, she's working fine. Now that's not to say that I won't upgrade someday, but for now I'm good with what I got!

Hmmm, guess this is more about internet then laptop but it's really my laptop that I use the internet on the most so it works. I have no idea the statistics but in my world most ordinary people I know have internet. Most people I know even have it on their phone. I know we are not feeling like it is truly a necessity but I certainly feel that I would choose to have it over something else. Like for us we like internet better then cable, therefore, we do not have cable we have internet. It's  choices...most of life is! That's definitely a look at my ordinary life!

Day 7 - Prayers

No matter my day or night I find solace in prayer, I can do it anytime, anyplace, I know it matters. No matter where you fall on the issue of religion I think prayers matter. I pray often. I should pray more often, sometimes I have prayed more. I don't always use a prayer book, sometimes I pray aloud, sometimes I pray silently, sometimes I sing my prayers through worship songs, sometimes I pray scripture from the Bible. I don't think it really matter as long as I pray I think I get along better in this ordinary life I live.

One of the prayer books I use...

 My topics for this day.

I pray on certain topics for a time then I change it up, sometimes I do not use the book for weeks on end, just depends on how I'm feeling! I have also used daily devotions for prayer guides or nothing at all, just depends on how I'm feeling. Another facet of my ordinary life! Happy Sunday to you!

Day 6 - Eye Wear

Part of my ordinary life is sporting eye wear, EVERYDAY.  I have worn glasses/contacts since I learned I have a seeing deficiency when I was 16 years old. That came about when I went to get my driver's license. Yep, I couldn't pass the eye exam. I got glasses within the month. I switched to contacts in college when I had saved up enough money to pay for the exam and contacts myself. I have never looked back, I love the option of contacts.

I would be lost without these!

I often think I should have had that LASIK procedure done when I was younger. Especially now that I need readers. I will eventually end up with bifocals. In fact my last prescription was written as a bifocal but I chose to not think I needed them just yet and got it filled as single vision. I'm pretty sure I should have went ahead and bit the bullet and got the bifocal but I thought I don't need them.

That's my two new pair of single visions...should have gotten them bifocal 8/

Sometimes I go upstairs early and take out my contacts before bed and wear my bedtime glasses, I keep those in the bathroom in the drawer. That way they are there when I take my contacts out. They are an older pair with a not so current prescription but they work for evening hours!

  Bedtime glasses

I also wear my bedtime glasses for early morning walks/runs rather then try to pop in contacts. When I do that I generally need my clip on shades. And lets not forget the sunglasses I wear when I am in my daily contacts. Yes, there are no shortages of eyewear here! Sunglasses are my friend too!

Clips on and sunglasses...

Then there are the "readers" I have all over the house...MiB does too! We have both reached that age that our arms are not long enough to help us see anymore we have to grab the readers hence the reason they are strategically placed throughout the house!

Do you see my kitchen pair, there on the shelf above the sink?

That's my living room pair on the window ledge beside my favorite chair!

Can you spot my bedside pair of readers?

Yep, they are everywhere...even a unisex pair in my purse for reading those pesky small print menus at restaurants or programs at events in dimly lit rooms. I need readers no matter where I am! I carry the unisex pair in my purse so that MiB and I can share them when we are out.

Unisex readers!

Everyday, ordinary people wearing glasses, yep, that's me 8)
