LSC FamilyFest

Today was Family Fest at church...estimates range from 625-700 people for the attendance. The weather certainly was perfect for such an event! The lunch was good, I had the chicken sandwich with a few goodies on the side, skipped the mac n cheese and chips and washed it down with a diet Coke (from my own cooler!) Other then chicken sandwiches your choices were hot dog or hamburger. If you ventured over to the "FUN" areas you could choose cotton candy, snow cones, nachos, and popcorn, so it was pretty much a junk food fest all the way around. There were sooooo many goodies including quite the assortment of cookies, most homemade and I personally vouche for the oatmeal butterscotch ones, there was also a cinnamon roll type thing that was a to die for sugar rush that was very good (and store bought) and caramel brownies to which I split with Pastor Pat ( I took the smaller piece of our half and he also took three more!) that were mediocre and a mini one bite original oatmeal raisin cookie that was yummy. That was all I sampled but there were plenty of other brownies in all forms, including with and without nuts, iced and not, plain and not so plain, every kind you can imagine really, along with rice crispy treats, homemade and prepackaged that were a huge hit with all ages and a few other cookie bar treats as well so no lack of choices in the dessert area.

Serving went pretty well overall, especially, once we were able to devise a sort of "system". Serving the mac n cheese was definitely the hold up for the lines and I recommend packaging the silverware with a napkin for convenience next time, too many napkins flying around and dropped silverware. Course there was quite a breeze blowing so that probably contibuted to the runaway napkins. However, prewrapped utensils would have been a good thing in my book breeze or not.
The message came from this passage in Matthew 13:

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, 54 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household." 58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

It made me ponder it in a most unusual way...I will expound on that in my next post...

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Lil'Blue met with success today as we found "the dress" for Homecoming...we also found a Prom dress for next spring. I would say it was a very productive afternoon and the best part was it cost less then $40.00 for BOTH dresses, gotta love a Dillard's going out of business, take an addtional 50% off already closeout prices sale! The prom dress will need an alteration for the length, even with heels it is just too long, but we will wait a bit before having that done as there may still be some growing going on.

We ended the afternoon with a stop at Cheesecake Factory for the buffalo chicken tenders appetizer and cheesecake, original for LB and caramel for me, can you say YUMMY (and about 600 calories just for the cheesecake, ugh, good thing I ran this morning!) But it WAS good!

Thursday Thoughts

Well, since I sometimes have a hard time coming up with things to keep this current I am instituting "Thursday Thoughts" and trust me it will be random...

  • I like popcorn, but I like it a whole lot more with hot tamales in it!
  • I am sad that people I love get divorced.
  • I wonder where I will live next?
  • I miss the man in blue...
  • I enjoy the quiet.

Another New Clock and Cleaning

Hobby Lobby is my new bargain center...I found this clock on clearance there and I think it goes nicely in the lower level family room...I actually got it yesterday but did not find the time or energy to get a post done until today. The picture is not so great, guess I should have done a close up but I think you get the idea! One thing I did notice after I got it home of course is that the hands of the clock are the same color as the body and it is not easy to read from afar. I guess the good thing is that the room it is in is not so big and if I wanted to I could paint the hands black.

Today has been all about cleaning. I scrubbed bathroom floors, did some laundry, vacuumed, cleaned/straightened in the basement (which still has so much more that needs to be done BTW) and did some other general straightening/sorting out, still many other jobs to do but I think for today that will be it. LilBlue should be home in just a bit and then homework and dinner will fill the rest of the afternoon and evening.

VERY Productive Shopping Day!

Wow, what a lot of things I bought today!!!

First, I found a couple home decor items...one for the newly painted bathroom and the other for the kitchen wall, the same people who said my bathroom was "too white" told me I need more clocks...so I found one today and I liked it so it is now hanging on my wall.

The other finds come from Office Depot and are the webcam, (now the man in blue will be able to see us), and a nifty little device to let ME put pictures from my camera directly on my laptop, it is really cool, I also got one for Lil'Blue. Cause of course the kind I needed for my memory card was not the same one she needed for hers. Anywho, you insert your memory card into the little gadget on one end and flip down the lid, then the USB Port end plugs into your computer and for me, I am able to dump the memory card pics directly to my laptop! I love it! I know it doesn't really take much in the way of technology to impress me but this is huge in my mind! Now if I can just learn how to make the pics a little smaller before I post I think I would be doing really good.

Finally, when I went to get a battery for the new clock, I discovered that a battery had corroded ALL the way through the metal flashlight housing of our big black flashlight. There was this white powder all over it and also in the drawer. I thought we had removed all the batteries from this particular flashlight but obviously not as there was one in it. That battery is so corroded in there now it's definitely not coming out, so said flashlight is now in trash!

Painting...

So, we had some company a few days back and they said our bathroom was just "too white" so for the past three days I have been working on painting it. It is now painted and although the pictures do not do it justice it looks amazing. The little bit of color did take the sterile look out of it and it has a much warmer feeling now. All I need now is a bit of wall decor and a TP holder. I am thrilled with the outcome! It really did not take three days, but the first day I painted the lower ledge wall. Had to let that dry and yesterday was so broken up that I really couldn't start and finish before I had some other things that needed to be done so I just waited until today to go ahead and finish. Besides I picked up another/different roller and it worked well. I may also look for a hand towel holder, not sure about that yet??

Anyway, that's my latest project! And as for colors they are the same as the rest of the main level, "southern breeze" and "toasted almond". The toasted almond is the on the lower ledge wall and the other area I painted is the southern breeze. Best part was we already had the paint so no new purchases!
I think the before and after pictures are quite telling...hmmm....what's next??? The choices are many!

Work Stoppage...

Well, the day did not go as planned...so there is not a finished project to post pictures of...maybe tomorrow.

As far as my day not going as planned, it wasn't a bad thing, just not as planned thing. I got a late start due to chatting with man in blue-then I found out I needed to pick up Lil'Blue from school. This caused me to delay doing my errands to coincide with being out to pick her up so I didn't have time to get the project completed before I needed to pick her up so therefore I just didn't start it. And besides that I found I needed to pick up some additional supplies so it all worked out in the end.

On a Lil'Blue school note Mrs. C ask her to fill out an application for the Treasurer position in NHS. So we worked on that over Sonic Happy Hour drinks. We also pulled pictures for her senior dedication page, that was fun, when she doesn't have so much homework in the next few days she is going to scan them for me so I can submit them to Mrs. B. It was fun to look back at the photos! We got lots of laughs out of doing that!

AWANA meeting tonight lasted waaaaaay longer then I had anticipated, like I didn't get home until 9:00 p.m. I got to go through all our bins and purge and make a supply list, it was good cause I did it all by myself and I know it's done. Then I had the pleasure of "helping" do chapters 7-9 on the Dracula study guide with LB when I returned home over small bowls of ice cream. Now it is off to bed!

New Headset

Today, I did several things but the most important was to find a headset, mic set for the man in blue. I was successful and will get it in the mail tomorrow, but you can see it for yourself with the photo Lil Blue took. She insisted I hold a soda in the pic??? And as you can see, she wants it known they are BLUE, however, they could have been black, orange or red, however, she felt BLUE was the best choice! I was very busy today and will have more pictures tomorrow of some things I started today and hope to finish tomorrow. Things always seem to be a process for me and this project I am working on is no different.

In other thoughts for our dinner tonight, we had penne pasta with garden red sauce, not homemade but good nonetheless. Lil Blue had corn and I had hominy and we both enjoyed garlic toast with our meal. We could have had salad but didn't maybe I will have that tomorrow for lunch.

That's about it for today which is quickly coming to a close, which I am ready for, I don't know why but I am really tired this evening, so hopefully, when I do actually get to the bed sleep will come quickly and easily. I have been working on mySherry's photo albums from when she visited us in Italy. She needed help with identifying some of the things we did so I worked on that again tonight and hopefully will finish it tomorrow.

GRRRRRRR.....

Well today started off fine...Mom's in Touch began meeting today and I do enjoy that, then off to try and find new bras, no winner, but still a good day, home to chat with the man in blue, that was good and the whole test phone call worked so that was great, then the mail came and that is where it went down hill. Our mortgage's escrow account falls short again this year...why, you ask, well our property taxes have gone up dramatically! Oh yeah, I sooooooo love this, NOT! Anyway, I get to deliver nearly $200.00 to our mortgage company so that our taxes and insurance can be paid without a deficit and on top of that our monthly payment goes up again by about 10 bucks this year, lovely!

So, Little Blue gets home and she also has a grrrrrr...they are reading Dracula....so far it is not pleasant, she in not enjoying it and there is a quiz on Friday over the first 12 chapters, yeah, great....grrrrrrr. So we worked on the study guide and have made it through the first two pages of questions for the first 6 chapters that I have no idea where they got these questions and it took indepth reading, re-reading, internet searching and lots of discussions before the questions had at least some sort of qualifying answer. Oh, I am soooooo looking forward to English this year, yeah, NOT!

Anyway, that's just a little taste of my world today...and thankfully, a new day dawns tomorrow!

Shopping Results

Yesterday we went shopping, today we have pictures of my purchases...I also made Little Blue a chocolate shake and so she was happy while she did/is doing her homework.

We have had a pretty low key day...church, lunch (w/ZR as our guest) and lounging around the homestead. Now we are engaged in homework. English homework, which revolved around the reading of Dracula, NOT my cup of tea, but somehow I am reading it and I am NOT in English, so how does that work, am I going to get a grade for this??? Hmmmm

Oh, and a phone call to see if I would continue being an AWANA secretary, I said yes...what else do I have to do on Wednesday nights? Besides I thought it was fun and I enjoyed the girls.

Shopping

Not much new to report here, took Little Blue to Kohl's where she scored a new dress and several camis. I on the hand scored new PJs and a swimsuit, which was totally Little Blue's doing, as I'm not sure I would have come home with either, but she thought they were great!

Worked on PTSA memberships, fixed potato soup for LB and pretty much just hung out around the house the rest of the day. LB is babysitting tonight and I am watching the Olympics!

It was noisy around the area today since the airshow is going on, the traffic was a bit congested in most of the area surrounding the base and the interstate as well, but not horrendous. That's all there is to report I believe, church tomorrow, then a relaxing afternoon I hope!

Video Chat

Tonight Little Blue got to video chat in real time with the man in blue. She did a screen capture of the man in blue so I am posting it since I thought it was pretty good!

Today I did commissary shopping and errands...since I stayed up waaaaay to late last night watching the Olympics I am plum tuckered out this evening. I think it will be a an early night for me! Got Little Blue some new things at Kohl's today.

Oh, I was off on the PTSA count, the number is way lower then 75, oh well!

Curriculum Night

Tonight was meet the teacher night...it was also the night we do our PTSA membership sign ups..we got lots of memberships so it was good, I will crunch the numbers tomorrow but I think we had at least 75...we'll see.

Met all the teachers, two we have had before, the others are all new for us...I think it will be a good year, I HOPE it will be a great year.

It was good to see everyone, teachers we have had before and parents we have met in our last three years, nice that faces are so familiar.

Going to watch some Olympics and then on to bed, it's been a good day.

First Day of School

Little Blue started back to school today...her last year, she's a SENIOR...wow, how did that happen? She has just grown up overnight it seems. I think she had a pretty good day, it seemed that way, a wanted schedule change was worked out without any problems, so that was a relief!
She was in good spirits when she got home, though I think she is tired from such an early morning, she is NOT used to that! Maybe she will go to bed early tonight??

Visitor's

Whew, it's been a whirlwind last few days...mySherry and Ky came to visit and we chatted, shopped, chatted, shopped, and did lots of eating...too much for me, I feel like a blob. But I did go get a walk in this morning after they got on the road heading home. We had fun!

Little Blue is back in school today, the official first day back is tomorrow but she had to be there today with the "welcome crew" of course the morning started dicey as my alarm DID NOT go off and we got a late start, but she put it in high gear and we were out the door in no time and off! I do hope she has a great day!

I need to get the house straightened up a bit and do some laundry, I may also mow, but not sure I am just taking it easy right now enjoying the quiet!

Average Day

Wow, not a very exciting day, but for me productive. I finished up the year 2001 and have started 2002 this evening. I am so excited to be moving in this especially after such a long break from it. I am really wanting to get caught up to the current year. The big thing is that I am going to have to spend a small fortune getting all the pics printed. Since sometime in 2003ish for the most part we have only digital photos without any hardcopies. So the challenge will be to find them and print them and then scrap them, I have already started printing out 2008 and am going to try and start scrapping it here real soon (like as soon as I get another album)!

Well, that is really it I suppose...oh, in other news man in blue made CCM candidate list! This is huge and he is ultra thrilled; now just need a job! Praying for the right position with the right timing and for the right location...

Long time, no write

I'm not doing so swell with the whole blogging thing...I LOVE to read all the others, I just don't keep up my own...I guess I don't have much to say or don't want to say it, hmmm.

I will try to do better and I am going to do more pictures in the post, I hope!
